Statement:

Paintings that primarily deal with the physicality of paint, painting and expression. A playful and bathetic show of fascination with a journey of paint, as it manoeuvres through and around obstacles. The paintings make fun of painting's more ambitious claims and of its formal boundaries. The paintings speak from a more comfortable position as arena for creation absorbed in its own dynamic, 'craftlike' and 'hobbyish', and that prefers the beauty of the mundane to the sublime. Tongue in cheek caricatures of paintings per se. Things that make paintings 'paintingness' are being addressed. Paint drying times, the parameters of the painting's surface, what equipment is necessary, that there has been some sophisticated decision-making about colour, hue, shape and form and how it hangs on the wall. They stand freely and lean up against other things. The painting is like a slot machine or mouse trap game in form, a child's game where things move with an incredibly human pace.
