Nothing makes an outsider know she's an outsider more than television, which, unlike cinema, or rather, the movies, clings to local idiom and insider allusion. Which is to say that for all my professed familiarity with the Chuckle Brothers, it was Amy Grace McDonough's devastatingly wearied reassurance 'Don't you worry your little head about it' in her wicked, Chuckle Vision send-up that put me back in the ring. Even minus familiarity and context, McDonough's muttering, maternal dominatrix mashes 'to me, to you' with something closer to Beckett - I can't remember ever appreciating the wind in the mike more fully. [I'd love to introduce McDonough to the LA team known as Harry and Stanya].
Oh what a funny person, and what an excellent foil, and what a very tenuously remembered script and what a cold place and what a totally touching moment of condescending commitment in the loosing, failing light.
Artist's Statement:
I take characters from TV and myth and wander into playful improvised territory. The Chuckle Brothers takes the TV duo and explores their possible private dealings and brotherly bond. It also records three performers including the third mute brother / film's cameraman in a moment of endurance on a Northumbrian beach.
