Between 21 March and 6 June this year, Bloomberg New Contemporaries will be shown in Cornwall.
Featuring 55 of the most promising artists emerging from UK art schools, Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2014 is to be shown across
Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange, Penzance, Cornwall.
Marking its 65th anniversary, selectors Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Enrico David and Goshka Macuga chose works by artists from nearly 1,400 submissions, including graduates from Falmouth University, Stacey Guthrie, Edward Hill, Melissa Kime and Frances Williams. The resulting exhibition is an incisive snapshot of contemporary practice, spanning diverse media, processes, themes, influences and approaches - from moving image and performance to more traditional approaches to making work such as printmaking, painting and sculpture.
Showcasing final year students, graduates and artists one year out of study, the annual national touring exhibition has consistently acted as a barometer of contemporary art practice, shining a spotlight on the hottest talents of the year. Previous New Contemporaries include Tacita Dean, Mona Hatoum, Damien Hirst, David Hockney and Mike Nelson as well as more recent emerging artists including Ed Atkins, Nathaniel Mellors, Haroon Mirza and Laure Prouvost. New Contemporaries was last shown at Newlyn Art Gallery in 1992 featuring Tacita Dean and co-selected by Derek Jarman.
The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated 120-page colour catalogue with an interview between selector Enrico David and New Contemporaries’ Director Kirsty Ogg.
The exhibition at The Exchange runs until 6 June and at Newlyn Art Gallery until 13 June.
