Selectors' Comments:
Paintings that can be envisioned. The fat man manages to stay there; a good wild full bunch of flowers with huge butterfly, embedded in the domestic source, gathered ground, picking. The large man, cross-armed, in a striking jumper.
Artist's Statement:
The three works here were painted from life (Oliver Sitting); from the imagination (Flowers and Butterfly) and from a photograph (Along the River). They were all painted very quickly and have a fresh confident feel. I experience painting as an extremely engaging enquiry, one that is never fully resolved.
